3/5/18 | null | null | 55.1 | QAR- appears effectively blind and partially deaf- has moderate appetite- growled/stiffened/snapped when attempting physical exam. Body condition - appears as though this dog has previously and/or recently been obese. Made general observations of gait and behavior prior to sedation and euthanasia. Remainder of physical exam conducted after sedation and/or immediately after euthanasia. Photos were taken both prior to euthanasia and post-mortem. Mouth/Teeth - Moderate-severe gingivitis- moderate gingival recession- mild-moderate dental calculus. Moderate underbite malocclusion- worn incisors. Ears - Moderate debris in both ears- minimal erythema noted. Lateral incisure of L pinna has previously been cut or torn and has since healed. Eyes/Nose - Mild-moderate exophthalmus appearance of both eyes- increased on L side. Mucoid ocular discharge- severe conjunctivitis- corneal edema and neovascularization of both eyes. Unable to perform fundic exam due to opacity of corneas. Wart-like growth noted on third eyelid of L eye. Heart/Lung - Strong- synchronous pulses; irregular heart rhythm (every 3rd to 4th beat dropped) noted after sedation; no murmur ausculted. Increased bronchovesicular sounds all lung fields- as is typical in most geriatric animals. GI - No obvious abnormality noted on abdominal palpation; passed formed stool. Reproductive - Enlarged vulva and perivulvar tissue- thickened and mildly erythematous skin. R caudal mammary mass ~2cm diameter- firm- irregularly-shaped. No spay scar or tattoo found. Skin /Hair coat - Excessively long toenails- causing toes to splay laterally or medially to accommodate length- with some curling under paw pad. Toenail of R front 5th digit is missing and appears to have been pulled out at the nailbed. Interdigital abscesses found between 4th-5th digit of R front paw and lateral to R rear 5th digit. Mild erythema and mild-moderate saliva staining interpad x 4 paws. Large calluses at hocks and elbows. Several small- dark pink- flat dermal masses on ventral abdomen. Several large erythematous lesions of dorsum- L of midline and over thorax and lumbar region- with dried sebaceous and serosanguinous crusts. Excessive/loose skin. Musculoskeletal - Barrel-chested appearance- with elbows and stifles rotated laterally in standing- sitting- and walking. Generalized muscular atrophy- most pronounced in rear limbs. Stiff gait- unwilling to sit or stand on rear limbs only. Neurologic - Mild L head tilt. | null | null | 6/9 |
